Oh darn, I missed it
- blissfully ignorant that it was on last Sunday! For some reason I had in my head that the next sale day was in Cessnock end May (Sat 26th), guess that was from picking up a flyer in Gunnedah.
So at least now I have done some exploring and found there is a published calendar here: http://www.birdsale.com.au/calendar.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - is this covered on AFF somewhere I have missed (still exploring).........?
I have a shopping list which of course is subject to change via impulse buying, it is as follows:
pair yellow painted firetails
pair red stars
pair orange breasted waxbills
pair pictorellas
pair plumheads
pair masked grassfinch
female black headed white chested Gouldian
silver king quail, sex = the other one to what didn't jump in the pond and kark it!
Have no drama popping out to Cessnock before the May sale if I could knock a few off the list. Got much left Harvey?

Some days are Diamonds some days are Zebs. Sometimes the coccidiosis won't leave me alone. Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my Gouldians. But any day with my finches is a day without stones.

Vince if you check below the classifieds and above the mini chat. When on the board index you will find a callender of sales. Is usually pretty up to date.

Thanks for that, I didn't realise that when you hit the Month view it expands into a quite usable calendar. So my job now is to go round to all the ones within cooee and find out how they work as a buyer, so in a year or so I will know what to expect as a seller. Although in reality I will probably still want to buy too!
I am yet to have the adventure as to what REALLY works in the aviary I built. I can't keep buying every pretty thing I see because eventually there will be an overcrowding point, even between harmonious species. About the only decision I have made is I will split band any young and if possible I will use different colours for different parents, they just better fledge a few days apart so I can pick 'em! I could run out of colours real quick, guess I better stock up. Already the penny is starting to drop that I will need some kind of holding aviary to allow proper mgt of the ornamental aviary, but I've got a bit of time to think about that I guess.... Or at least I do at the moment, but just watch that vanish before I know it!

A trick I learnt from my mother for identifying the parents of fledglings. If a couple of nests fledge at once, watch who feeds the young to identify the parents. Usually works, though some very stubborn chicks will badger every adult in site to feed them.
