Hey all,
Was gonna worm my birds tomorrow, but then I remembered reading something about not worming with chicks in the nest. I have three baby gouldians almost fledged, so wondering if I can worm now, or wait until they're independent?
Thanks

Good question, Jayburd, there are differing opinions, regarding different worm medications. I used moxidection, due to another problem, and someone, in another thread, stated they lost babies using it, so we did not treat the birds with babies.

Thanks Gary, might use that next time. Any idea if it's the same with W-E+?

My personal opinion would be to wait for a couple of weeks by then the chicks will have fledged and started to feed themselves. They would be larger and better equipt to handle medication.

While on worming etc has anyone had any experience or knowledge on what would happen if you made a normal worming liquid mix up and then used it to soak your seed in it.
I presume once the seed was drained and ready for the birds it would have absorbed some of the medication.
Any thoughts!!!!!!!!

Ok, will do, thanks :)
Interesting thought, I'd like to know the answer to that one as well. But if the birds are eating or feeding chicks with medication-soaked seed and little else, wouldn't they become overdosed?

In the past I've heard of different breeders worming finches with seed coated/soaked in Panacur or Alben. Not sure as to its relative effectiveness. Probably no more or less of a hit & miss approach than in drinking water??
