I know it has been said canaries and finches can be housed together, but just want some opinions from those that DO.
Few years back i had a pair of canaries and a pair of Turquoise parrots together. The turquoise parrots were on the nest and the male canary would not let the male parrot get in to feed his female. He gave him curry every time he tried.
I thought they would work it out - but end result was a dead female turquoise ( starved to death ). Not long after that, my female canary got beat up and died as well.
Now, i have that SAME male canary paired with a new female, and a spare aviary flight that i wish to put my mannikin finches in along with these canaries, and my longtail. I hope to have some more longtails soon to also join this aviary.
Good idea ?? Or just asking for trouble, noting the past history ?
All opinions appreciated, i wont be doing this until i am sure it is ok.

We did keep a pair of canaries in with our finches (in an aviary approx 4x5m) and they were just a pain in the butt.
They disturbed all the finches and no one wanted to/could nest while they were there, so we got rid of them :/

A friend keeps numerous canaries in a mid size aviary with his finche and last season bred doube bars, stars gouldians ruddies and orange breasts... Would be noted that the canaries are not usually bred in the aviary, that's done in canary cages, but there's always at least one in the aviary at any given time.

I have breed canaries and finches together and multiple pairs of canaries with finches also and have had very little problems. It can be done but you need to have lots of nests and luck to have the right birds mixing. The canaries and bengos I have mixed before along with painteds stars DB OB Cubans and Saints. I have had many generations of canaries mixed with finches and all have been mixed when young so that may have been in my favour. As with all birds when mixing you need the right type of temprement with all.
