Hello All,

I was out and about yesterday & as time would have it I popped into Andrews Bird Palace at Smithfield in Sydney....

I must say his birds looked rather healthy & in good spirits.

But what, I did find a find, but alas I couldn't purchase it, because I didn't have enough cash. And what blew my mind, you may well ask......It was a carrying case. Made of plyboard, it was divided into two halves, that were then divided into two, so this box, was like a good bottle of scotch box, you open it in the centre, an four cages are there!! To put the birds into the box, was a circular opening, with a wire catch & then with a rubber insert, so when you put your hand in, no birds could escape.
Ther cage fronts were made of black mice wire with a copule of perches in each holding cage. When you closed the box up. all birds would be passive, not only can they see other birds but are snug & safe. And the beauty of it was that, you could unscrew the front of each cage and clean it out.

Does anyone out there know, of where i can acquire this, direct either from the manufacturer or his distributor, because i would like to buy at least four cases,(which I can pass on to friends) or do I pay $55 per box?

Your help please...

Cheers

Is taking the general design and having a crack at making one an option? I know I've tried with nest boxes and, well, lets just say they didn't turn out exactly like the original... Working on my handyman skills though!

Hello Spanna,

A simple question....How will this help me? Should I buy a box and take numerours photos & measurments and pass them on to you, so you will be able to mass produce...of which, I am more than happy to....It may just take a week or so, I just do not have the cash at the moment.

Here's a thought, you manufacture them, and i'll get them sold on the eastern sea board...I have a few other ideas with theses boxes, that would make them a premium box, where serious breeders needede them, but we may discuss it later...

Cheers

 sorry, I meant could it be viable for you to simply take the design and build your own version! You read it exactly the way it is, I just didn't make myself at all clear!

I'd be happy to have a crack at making one, but I dare say you wouldn't be pleased with my craftsmanship  I'm not very handy with a bandsaw, and freight wouldn't be cheap! So unfortunately I can be of no help to you at all!

I will quite often go out, look at bird products and see what I can make that resembles it, usually with a few additions of my own. I find it's the best way to get a product you're completely happy with, however long the process of making it may take!

Hey spanna,

How's this for an idea, I'll buy the box & send you a hell of alot of photos...Take your time, to develop something a bit better & then come back to me with a better design. I have faith in people and I would really think it great, if we could collaborate on a better box...I'm in no rush!!!

If you do buy the box would you consider posting pictures on this thread? I've been designing a box with some similarities to what you describe; but haven't come up with all the details. Pictures would be very advantageous.

 Where do we draw the line on improvements?!
The next box I plan on making will have metal flywire inside, with mouse mesh on the outside, to prevent birds from poking beaks through and injuring the skin/feathers around the beak. There will also be a door on the end that can simply swing open by undoing a latch so the birds can fly straight out, rather than being caught and handled again. This is in addition to a rubber insert for the regular door to prevent escape while placing birds in the box. I would also like to find a good and secure way to place a security screen (thin piece of wood, with a few holes for airflow and light) over the wire section of the box so birds are less likely to flap around during transport. The entire box, inside and out, will be painted to make cleaning easy as well, this would most likely be done before assembly for ease.
Now with a few quail I may want to make a larger version, but with all the same features... A padded roof as well in case someone decides to take a vertical flight.
What other additions might you like to see in a box? This could be the start of a long list :problem:

I will get the box sometime later this week so, then give me a week or so to sort out photo's etc and it will be up....

Sounds exactly like mine - I paid $30 at a local sale. One of my friends uses it to show his birds in at bird sales.
They're very good :)

I didn't get an email from you, but I think there is something wrong with the way I posted my email address. Sounds great! No need to hurry because it'll probably be a few weeks before I can get around to it anyway. Thanks so much!
