Having only come back from a long holiday a couple of weeks ago, I was faced with diamonds, stars and goulds ready to go nesting again but very little nesting material to choose from. My neighbour offered me a stack of dried out asparagus plants so as a desperate measure I decided to try it out in the avaries. Result: can't get it in there quickly enough, no sooner do I put it in than it starts to go. In fact 2 pairs of diamonds are throwing out other bits of grass etc to make way for this stuff. Wonder if the cold weather has affected them?
It's working a treat and the nest boxes are overflowing with the tops. However, it has changed my opinion of adding asparagus to the dinner menu.
