Funnel feeder problems

I've been using funnel feeders on my Gouldian breeding cages but suspect a blockage where the seed comes out may have caused the demise of one of my finches. Is there an better alternative and just how long can a finch survive without food. PS I am now being very vigilent and checking the food outlet and not just filling the hopper.

Andy,have you tried open dishes placed in kitty litter trays? The trays catch all the husks and there easy to remove and clean.In saying that,i do use hoppers but i run my finger through the tray each morning to remove husks and seed dust. Cheers Craig
