I stumbled into an archival piece from the Sydney Morning Herald, 7th November 1936 - it used to be a broadsheet then! The link also has had an optical character reader look over the scan and I've reproduced it below. The spelling's a bit off but you'll be green with envy when you see what's there and it's not all wild caught.

Very Interesting reading.

I have a bound copy of "Australian cage birds weekly" from 1936 and 1937 that I keep going back to read.

It is unbelievable where the birds are located in Sydney and the prices. Today there is no way they would be located in the centre of Sydney or Eastern Suburbs, and the prices are cheap, but when inflation/todays prices are taken into account are sometimes dearer.

The spelling in the paper is fine it's the poor print that the OCR has trouble interpreting and it's best guess it not that good. If I wasn't so lazy I'd fix it up myself
