Has anyone else experienced problems with bald head gouldians. They have been treated with Moxidectin Plus. Nests have been cleaned out and sterilised. Still bald head on a couple all the way through season, although others came out of moult ok.

Ive had a couple with bald heads in the past, usually hens and from what Ive read it can be due to breeding, all the energies go to egg laying and rearing chicks, other sources say its lack of iodine, but I dont feel that is the reason. Within a few weeks of starting the moult the head feathers started to return.

Hi Nessy,
This season has shown more problems with feather mites than usual in Melbourne. Just wait to see how your birds moult out before making a call on culling them or not..you can also try a drop of Ivomec behind the back of the neck to assist.
Cheers
Paul
