Hi

What is this finch up to? I've never seen this behaviour before and she's the only one doing it. I can't imagine what would be so tasty that would collect all over the aviary mesh. Any ideas?

Mine do that sometimes when I spray the aviary with water, they seem to like collecting the droplets

Hmmmm...

Where would salt be coming from? That's powder-coated wire. It's also bone dry.

Why is this the first of a few hundred birds to ever show this behaviour? It must mean something unique.

A lot of birds like chasing water droplets on wire, must reckon it tastes better.
Maybe she started the habit that way and just likes to do it any old time now, or she is trying to use the wire to dislodge something annoying her in her inside her beak.

Be Careful the white coming off wire is toxic to birds...better to paint wire..
