I have got 4 of the 'D' shape feeders, 2 for water and 2 for seed. I'm thinking there is a better way as only having one big door on the aviary makes it interesting to freshen up the water and seed. Any ideas on what I can use so I don't need to open the door to add seed/water?

I use rabbit type waters through the wire and glass seed feeders that hold enough for a few days..

Adding a seed hopper can last for a few days but water needs to be changed every day

I will disagree with that to a certain extent...if they are using it as a bath yes...but I use the rabbit type and have done so for years with no problems.. I every change water every 3 days and drinkers are clean and sterilised each week...aviary has stainless bowls which are changed every day.finches247 wrote:Adding a seed hopper can last for a few days but water needs to be changed every day

I use those rabbit drinkers for my lorikeets for water. It is important to give both dish and bottle during a crossover period until you know they are sing the bottle.vettepilot_6 wrote:I will disagree with that to a certain extent...if they are using it as a bath yes...but I use the rabbit type and have done so for years with no problems.. I supply a cereal wetmix in a cup and a dry mix separately

It's important to give lorikeets and other birds opportunities to bath, however, either in a dish or as a spray.

There good hoppers if you go away for a few days
Just blow husks out at least once a week.

jimstreet - there are much better hopper designs than the one you pictured. Alan Tully sells the best ones I've come across where the seed flows through the wire from outside and they're realistically priced too. I'm pretty sure many of our Vic members use them and no doubt there'd be many pictures on the forum of them somewhere. Here's a thread with some used by gomer - viewtopic.php?f=45&t=5575. The ones I have are the same but have the catcher - sort of a drawer directly under the main hopper.
