Jacarini aggression

Hi all,
Recently I've noticed that the jacarini male is being very unfriendly towards the plum head male.
He ignores almost everything else (as long as they keep away from his girl) but he'll chase the plum head if he gets within eyeshot of him.
Has anyone else had this problem?
It could also be that the Plumhead is a bit of a stirrer, I've caught him sidling up to the displaying male tri nun and putting the nun off by leaning right over him, much to the nuns displeasure :lol:

sounds like the Jac's have a nest somewhere?? normally not agressive at all.

Hi trilobite, yeah the Jacarinis have two nests actually! But I was wondering why only the Plumhead, not the others to any significant degree... :think:

I found that some of my past Jac males would attack any small finch which frequented the ground whilst they were nesting. Fledgling Ruddies in particular copped a caning from the Jacs.
The leaning over behaviour whilst another crows as you've described is known as peering & is practiced by most Munias, Stars & Plumheads in particular.

So can anything be done about the aggression, without removing the plumhead (catching him would disturb everything)?
Ah, okay, so it's well noted then. Why do they do it? It certainly annoys the Nun!

Agree with Jac aggression when they have young. Male has picked out TCPF male as the badie and ambushes him at every opportunity. Prior to this, no problems.

Similarly, male Red Sisken has taken a dislike to an Emblema cockbird.

My Jacarini has had a nest with 2 young, which fledged 2 weeks ago and I haven't seen the young yet. He has been chasing everything within 3 metres of his corner without exception,
He is the only thing seen creating a disturbance in a 10 metre aviary and I have blamed him for scalping my Crimson cockbird. So now he is living in a Canary cage on his lonesome.
Serves him right for being a trouble maker. Whether he is the culprit I couldn't be 100% sure, but I cannot take any chances.

I've kept many Jac's over the years & never had any incident of aggression..... that is up until now.

He's a young Jac still colouring up, a mature hen & although she presents, she wont let him have any of that !.

Adolescent, boisterous behaviour come to mind. Sexual frustration - most likely.

But wow... anything resembling a Jac - Pictorella's Black face, the deep blue in the tricolour PF, even the strawbs as he begins to show a little black.

Anyway, I think they have to go, but has anybody had this problem see them grow out of it ?

It doesn't seem to matter how long you've kept birds, you're always learning !
