Bloody things

Well after building what i felt was a mouse proof avairy Harv and i where stunned to find a few mice in the avairy today,we where moving a few rocks around and 2 mice jumped out..

You had to see it to believe it how they got out once we found them,they went straight up a smooth 40cm wall through the wire into the safety door and out.
The floor is cemented..

Is there such a thing as a mouse proof avairy..????????????

Yep ..nearly died when I saw them shimmy up the metal leg of a suspended aviary ... They get into everything .

I would doubt very much,but in saying that,it would be a great advantage for mice to use that bush at the end of the aviary to access it. Craig

The bloody thing are laughing at all of us

Nice pick up, Craig. We often forget to look UP when working out the entry point(s) of the little blighters!

Ive seen them shimmy up a tree and jump onto an aviary , they have no fear Brett and yes its heartbreaking when you put the effort in and they undermine you ...

Only thing left to do now is the check out bait stations that are pet safe and poison the rotters .

give them a little "tingle" via an electric fence....works for me!
a hot tape around top and bottom of an aviary your size should not set you back much at all.
small energiser, 12v battery and you are in business.

You cannot have mouseproof/ snakeproof aviary with 12 mm mesh

Quite achievable with colorbond skirt and 6mm mesh and sill sealed doors/ entry points

Chewable materials such as wood and fibro are exploited by rodents . . metal frames/ flashing are the way to go

Electricity is currently a good 'belt and braces' and is good for those other pests of the feline persuasion

Can I ask how people connect it up to give the meeces a good "little tingle"? As mice are so small I presume ground rods to be a waste of time. Do you connect the wire mesh to the neg. terminal? And how close is the hot tape to the mesh?
