I have two gouldian hens who I think are egg bound. They are fluffed up and look sickly. They were fine a week ago..One has been like it for a week now and the other a few days. I have them in a heated cage. I am giving them spark and have tried a drop of oil to the beak and vents. They are still eating but seem to be very weak. Is there other things I can do? They are my two best hens as well!!!

For all my breeding birds I use calcivet once a week in drinking water.....if at some stage I get a suspected eggbound bird heat is first option...by morning egg has passed....dont know if your Gould would be eggbound if its been like that for week? Might be something else...is tail pumping noticed? Breathing? Wet vent?

Thanks sounds good I will get some calcivet for all my breeding birds. I have though been giving them plenty of cuttlebone, ground boiled egg shell and grit mix as well as sand on the floors. I am not totally sure that they are egg bound but I have no other thoughts as they both must have been close to laying. They are in different cages as well. One is a blue hen the other a split blue. I spoke to a vet today and will take them there on Monday morning if they are still ok!!

The gouldians are not egg bound. The vet thought pneumonia. One died prior to seeing the vet and the other one is on antibiotics but not in good condition.
