Eggs'' clear'' first time round

Ive oftern wondered why some birds have clear eggs first time around..I realise first time matings,young birds infetility etc etc
I had Gouldians have a large clutch first time with no problems.
My question is...is it common for first time layers to be clear..
and does this happen in the wild? or is it a captivity thing?
Anyone know..just wondering

One common cause is that the hen is ready before the cock. So she lays eggs. And he does nothing to fill them.
