Hi guys

Finally noticed the hen off the nest and though I would have a sticky beak.

She is a great sitter and so is the rooster so I have tried not to bother them.

The hen is a normal black headed purple breast and the rooster is the same but single factor AY (I think, he has a frosted blue colouring to his black).

Anyhow I think this gives me 100% normals if I am not mistaken.

Just happy to have my first goulds and that they seem healthy.

Looks like you've got a yellow chick. I'd say the rooster must be a SF Euro Yellow (Not AY) which means the yellow chick is a hen. But no doubt some Gouldian aficionado will confirm!

If the dad is SF euro yellow-back he will have a grey head rather than black and a diluted green on the back. Does he??

My first thought was that there was a yellow baby in there.

I got him from Nowra sale.

I wanted a black headed normal cock but and so did every one else.

I found the rooster. He is normal gould in every sense but his black head looks "frosted" or "Smokey" black.

I was told he was a single factor and that was it. I was chuffed regardless for the $ 20 I paid for him.

He has never left the nest and protects it against all when he does.

Would be nice to have a yellow baby

As we look at the photo,
The top chick in rhe photo is a single factor male
The bottom chick is a yellow hen
and the right hand side chick is a normal, male or female.
Good luck with them.

Was good guessing from our AFF gould experts.

I seem to have 1 yellow, 1 SF and one normal. All black heads.

I noted the SF has a yellow patch on his head.

I have been reading up on the genetics of these guys and am getting the hang of it.

Cant wait till the new aviaries are up as I want to have a bit more fun with goulds.

Thanks

A lighter patch can sometimes indicate Australian Yellow but I dont know enough about this mutation to say anymore.

What Di said. Which could mean your cock is carrying both Aussie and Euro yellow I think.
