Adding a water feature.

I currently have, stars, RFPF and Cubans and I would love to add a water feature to it, with some sort of waterfall and a bathing area. Would this work or would it not be suitable for the birds? The avairy is only about 1dX2wX2h so quite small.

I dont see why it would be an issue , keeping in mind that the depth should not exceed much more than an inch or 2 as young fledglings could easily drown if they happen to land in water that is too deep .
Positioning of the feature is a key factor too , shallow water in direct sunlight is a recipe for bacterial and algal growth .
Also factor in the medication treatment of the birds if necessary and the difficulties that could arise .
A charcoal filter will assist in keeping the water cleaner than one of the sponge types .
To avoid fouling the water source , positioning of perches over the feature is a big no , no

Given the small footprint of the aviary 1m wide by 2m long, any sort of water feature would take up a significant portion of the footprint area. Then it needs to be positioned such that it is not under perches and out of direct sunlight.
I have also found in my aviaries that both red face and blue face parrot finches love defecating in water, as well as dropping the spent pieces of cucumber in the water dish.
For what its worth I think that although the feature may look great initially in the long run the negatives would far outway the positives.

Hi Lacosa I have to go against what the other ones say as I do have a water feature in my aviary and find that it actually promotes different types of finches to breed as they normally breed in wetlands in the wild and I have other friends that have them in there aviaries with goldfish in them and in the past 10 years they have only lost 2 young in them, If you use a small water feature with a waterfall then you can empty the water and change as you please plus I use a solar powered water pump so at night it stops working. The birds love it.
