Is your finch sick or not well? Find out why.

Curious as to know, I treated my birds with moxidectin today and the thought dawned on me...
Can moxidectin be administered while parent birds are feeding chicks???
All advice/help muchly appreciated!!!

Some would say yes some no.I do it when it suits me and the weather regardless of chicks as I have them most of the year with different breeding birds.

Here too......Two weeks ago I treated with Moxi plus and Baycox in one treatment..........the following week I fledged a total of 11 young from three pairs which I didnt know I had in the nest.............Like Gomer, one has to pick a time that suits or a time that is determined by the weather (eg after rain)........My aussie finches and small loris dont seem to display any adverse reactions to these treatments.

I'm told the potential issue is with young chicks. The drug can potentially reduce their ability to beg for food. If I know I have chicks just hatched in an aviary then I'll wait a week or two, but I usually wouldn't know what's hatched where. In any case I too haven't had any problems - that I'm aware of.

Same Sam, I've definitely treated when I've had hatchlings, even though I generally avoid it if I know they're there..........and no issues....that I know of.....one is hardly likely to ever know if you're killing any young ones........and the ones that fledge mostly seem to live on & breed.............better than they do untreated and loaded full of parasites :shifty:
