Well if you live in NSW and source out a Sydney supplier that is exactly the price per tub for the 2kg Green Milk Millet......I bought 8 tubs of the stuff plus a few green millet sprays for the Gouldian and chewed up a quick $400 bucks pretty quick. Plus the cost of petrol for the daughter to go pick it up.
You might say more fool me but with 15 young mutation gouldians in the nest plus a total of 16 pairs either down or on eggs or starting to lay - half my stock is breeding. I really need this green millet
i often look at the silly price Gouldian Pauls sells this stuff for. At $20 a tub he is virtually doing it for the love of the hobby and should be highly commended. You Victorian breeders sure have it made.
In the wrong hands you'd be paying $35 a tub. According to the Sydney source - he has no trouble selling it and he bought 2 pallets of the stuff......Now thats confidence! spelt with a capital "C " for CASH!!! LOL
He hre was closer and no freight involved i would have relieved him of a quick 25 tubs...pity!
Green Milk Millet -Would you pay......$35 a tub

All i can say is,you guys in NSW need to get your act together and start looking after each other and stop thinking of the big bucks to be made out of your fellow aviculturists.Do it in house and don't rely on commercial sellers that have to put their over head costs on the product such as freezing, power costs, freight etc etc.
But in your situation Graham i would do what Tiaris and myself do and that is bulk sprout your seed and freeze it yourself.By bulk i mean at least 20 kg.
Even though i do buy my GFWM from Pual and add to my sprouted seed after it is frozen,at the end of the day there is still some GFWM in the container but most of the sprouted seed has been eaten.I buy my GFWM because i can at a reasonable price, thanks to Paul
but i do believe if i couldn't,my birds wouldn't be any worst off with out it.
We all bred birds without it for years, even blue gouldians and i haven't heard anything but hear say whether one is better than the other. Cheers Craig

Heres your opportunity Graham get interest for next years harvest in Sydney and get it in yourself. As Craig said milk seed is a part of a balanced diet for your birds. It is not needed to breed blues or any other finch I keep. Its a great option for those who cant get green seed heads or dont have enough for the year.Paul does a great service for those in Melbourne providing a part of a varied diet.I am sure there is those who cant access green seed head who rely on this.
I have experimented with milk seed and have found some interesting results. So now I chit about 20 kgs of seed and mix in about a nine litre bucket of milk seed and a nine litre bucket of chopped green seed heads with 2 kgs of peas corn and carrot mixed together. This mix is for a varied diet only and the birds would be happy with chitted seed only no doubt.
I still have 12 containers from last year and have ordered the same as last year again.Maybe I will have 24 containers spare the following year ????

Graham i know it has been tried many times in and around Sydney and has been a disaster every time with people not turning up when it arrived, not paying and the person gets lumped with the bill and finding places to keep it frozen,it's a bloody nightmare.
I know Rob at Ace Colony Aviaries does supply it and he runs a business so he has overheads to cover and he knows that it is in short supply this year because of the drought so good on him.
Paul does our orders for absolutely nothing, out of the goodness of his heart but no one gets their seed unless it is previously paid for well and truly in advance.
BTW where is that seeding grass pic. Craig

unfortunately got no room or i'd think about it. there are 5 cars and a motorbike in the garage and under the back verandah. no room even to build any holding aviaries.
only told the wife yesterday that if i breed a few gouldian - i will have no choice but to close in the remaining 5 metres of verandah and house the young till summer. i was the only one laughing about it - but it could happen
