You dont really need to buy sprouting seed. You could buy either a millet by itself (french perhaps) or sprout your mix bearing in mind some seeds sprout at different times.

Hi Sime,
I get my seed either from Petstock in belconnen or stockfeeds in phillip. Just the ordinary mixed finch seed, which sprouts pretty well :)

Ahh ok, the only reason I thought you might need specific seed is because I saw a placing on a shelf with a label "sprouting seed" that was out of stock at Best Friends pet store.

I've got some Finch and Canary mix (separate mixes) supplied by "Breeders Choice Seeds" so I might give them a go.

I will look up how to do's in regards to the sprouting technique.

Cheers guys.

Hi Sime,

You will be able to sprout your own mix....in fact if you sprout and don't get a high % sprouting it would suggest you need to look at were you are buying your seed from....you should aim for a sprouting rate of 80%+ IMO.

Cheers

I bought a bag of white French millet seed, and will follow the directions from The finch information site to sprout them.

Let's see how this goes........

That's perfect Sime,it should sprout evenly. You only need a small sprout around 1-2 mm and it's ready to use,any longer and it loses it's value. Cheers Craig
