The last few days my Gouldian male finch (Clyde) has been hiding in a nest box. HIs female partner Bonnie, does not seem to go in their. Is he starting to make a nest for breeding or just making a home for himself in the cooler weather?
When she is ready she wiil go in, have a look and if it is to her liking things will happen. If it is not to her liking nothing will happen until the cock has a site she likes.
Seems like things need livening up a bit, I would swap things about. Move the box to a different location, add another box, cuttle fish, millet heads, change the perches around, anything to stimulate a bit of interest in their surroundings.
As they move around checking out their new layout it may set them off in breeding mode.
