Hopefully the title got your attention...
What finches/softbills, that you have kept (or been kept by) do you believe are easy to keep & breed and which do you consider to be hard.
Please try to answer from your own experience not what you've read or heard.
Everyone has an opinion......

Well for me it varies from year to year for example 5 years ago I bred a lot of red face now not so many.
Easy : Blue face Pf , Painted fire tail , plumheads , Black rump Db ( providing you have a true pair) Gouldian , Rf star, Cuban, Hecks and black hearts and African Fires aka ruddys.
Hard : Diamond Fire tail (just getting the balance right and are still my nemesis) red brow ( having true pairs is an issue along with captive bred birds) . I am also finding The nuns as a challenge , its all down to having true pairs that are compatible. St Helena's from loosing hens in the cold weather .
As I said each year has its challenges .. Pete

Like Pete said, depends on the pair/s and the season/s.
Easy some pairs/seasons/hard others African Fires (Ruddies), Bengos*, Canarys*, Cubans, Double Bars, Gouldians*, King Quail*, Orange Breasteds, Zebs* (I breed those with * for specific colour/pattern mutations)
Easy as soon as you find the right pair Javas
Frustrating, Painteds, Saint Helenas
I think that location of avairys, mix of finches and style of avairy, are 3 very important factors that affect our success, and learning to get those right is a big part of when we begin to succeeed.
Some of us have lots of opinions Mick.

I agree it depends on the pair and season. For example I currently have full nests of Crimson (4) and Tri Colour parrot finches (4) however my Zebras have only managed to produce one young.
In the past I have had no issues breeding Zebras, Bengalese, Stars and Painteds.
Difficulties have been RC Cordons, Double bars and Longtails (probably not true pairs).
