What does it mean if a gouldian has a small white patch under its throat approx 2-3mm wide? i have a normal male gouldian finch who exhibits a small white patch under his throat, does it mean he is split to some sort of mutation, or is it just a case of poor colouring?

I asked a similar question recently and pretty much everyone answered that they would be split to Australian yellow. I have a couple of white breasts with white patches connecting their chest to their lower beak at the moment.

Thanks for the replies guys, i thought it was somewhat unusual and out of the ordinary for a normal bird, now i know he is split, he is currently paired with a YH normal hen and they are sitting on 5 fertile eggs, so I'll see what happens, although i probably would have preferred he was pure normal

Hi there Finnchman18 the question you ask about the Gouldian with the patch of white under it bib,yes it is a A /Y ,I don't know if the person you bought them from told you or forget to tell you they are A/Y or possible A/Y ,In my experiment when I breed A/Y I had birds came out with white patch and some had hide one which you could find,What I find when some of us who don't keep record of our bird they mix in with our normal, then we have pollute our own stock, that why I believe good way of learn is to keep record on our own stock so when we go out there to sell our Gouldian finch ,we know what we are selling out to people and can show our record to them from ring number or colour plastic ring for the furture referrant.I hope this will help.

The person i purchased him off bred him last year and only keeps and breeds normal Gouldians, so I'm not sure where The A/Y split came from, and i purchased them as normal gouldians, so the seller must have been unaware of the split mutation in this scenario, i am aware of the seller purchasing some birds from a seller a few years back, so possibly the parents were split to A/Y also. Thank you Mr Tino.
