Hi All,
Could I please get some clarification from our members and particularly our qualified Vets out there if dairy has an adverse effect on Finches and/or Softbills when fed regularly in their diet. I can tell that the community is divided on this already but please hear the examples.
Canary and Siskin breeders of the past and present have used bread soaked in milk "Milk Sopp" as soft food for their birds. Softbill breeders and publications will tell you that grated cheese is a common component in a softbill softfood diet. In response lately I have heard passionate opinion that dairy is "not good for birds". Could I please have this conflict of opinion clarified?
Thanks for any comments.

Hi Paul,i have fed all those mentioned in the past with no adverse problems. In the early years of breeding/growing bush fly maggots with milk powder there was many knockers regarding lactose intolerence in birds so they trialed other products like blood and bone but soon came back to milk powder after a multitude of problems.Aussie_Bengo wrote:Hi All,

I think the only problem with milk is that it goes off very quick, especially in warmer weather but cheese just goes hard and unpalatable. Cheers Craig

Some used milk in cool weather, water in warm to prevent the going off problem.
