Erected cheap Greenhouses from Masters
Wondering what I should grow for birds, other than endive. I've planted some taste of Africa seed mix, greens and grains, etc., to see what goes. Any suggestions?
Thanks Gomer. Isn't Guinea grass seed the main one in taste of Africa? Where can I buy the Guinea seed by itself? Regards

Not sure what in the mix I haven't tried it for years.
You maybe able to dig some wild grasses up ( introduced of course) in your area.I brought home about 20 clumps from a trip through N.S.W recently. I am not to familiar with whats available locally to you here is a example below. Marcus Pollards is one of my favourite grass articles.
Or your local finch keepers will have plants you maybe able to have a small clump from to get you started.

The 'Taste of Africa mix' you mention, I assume is the Birds R Us mix?
Two of the ingredients as you know are Green Panic and Gatton Panic.
Both these grasses appear to be know as Guinea grass.
Great minds, I planted some 'Taste of Africa' 2 days ago to get some Gatton plants growing.
I put some Grains n Greens in last weekend so as to get an idea what is in it.
The by product should be a nice mix of seed heads.
You can find mature Green Panic along the road up the valley so assume there is some near you.
While you out looking, Panic Veldt Grass, my birds actually get excited for it.

@Stu, that's too funny. I call most seed mixes "Forrest Gump", they're like a box of chocolate - just never know what your going to get! It would be the same Taste of Africa, you talk about. I don't even know if you can still get the stuff. I no longer use it. I found some I had packed away couple of years ago. Out of excitement to get green houses going, I planted it. Still have a couple kilos left. My birds, and I mean all of them smash the greens and grains.
I am really excited about the various seed mixtures I learn about, and how it all comes into play. It's been incredible for me this past year. Regards
