Artificial Insemination

Hello,

Need help with artificial insemination. Need to know if anyone was successful in doing so. I have found firsthand that some birds don't want to breed.... Maybe the male made a fat joke to the hen and she put him off forever lol.

But in all seriousness sometimes good pairings will just not mate for one reason or another. For example, I have 2 red factor type canaries. I require their genes badly by they both have parents that were of diverse backgrounds and as such the offspring will hopefully express those genes and I have a potential of developing 6 birds plus any new mutations.

These two birds do all,the things needed and required for mating except the male won't hop on top and the female won't get excited either... Maybe the blue pill by Pfizer will do. Lol.

So.... What I need to do is artificially inseminate them and also, find a way to save the male liquids so that I can use them in the future should the male get sick, old or injured, etc etc.

This will definitely help with quality control and prevent the injury of some birds who just don't get along.

Please share you knowledge and exp.

Thanks

I am being serious . .

I think it has been done, or at least attempted, with psittacines and other larger birds

Hmm.. Let me explain myself a bit more. The specific birds I'd like to use artificial insemenation on are: zebra finches, canaries, European greenfinch, gouldiam finch, European goldfinch.

These birds, especially canaries represent a much more difficult and challenging obstacle to inseminate for reasons still unknown to me.
