Hello,

Has anyone grown their own seed? I know it might not be enough for feeding, but I have grown wild plants and fed seed to my finches and canaries. I feel them red lambs quarter seed and various wild grass seed. They jump on it and enjoy it a lot more than store bought seed.

A lot of people on here grow their own seed and feed it to the birds green. It is very good for them that way. Just use some of the seed you regularly feed the birds.

I think our seeds are irradiated or steamed, because they don't sprout if you soak them in water. I'd have to get commercial untreated seed for farms which limits me to wheat, canola and sesame.

I bought some oats and Japanese white millet online. I've got them in separate pots. Oats going well. Millet took off but then seems to have shrivelled up looking near dead now. Had a bit of rain lately, maybe the soil was too wet? Haven't got the greenest thumb. Plenty of seed left so will do a few experiments in different areas of sunlight and moisture. Was hoping to feed to birds when grown.
