Hi guys, just finishing building my bird aviary its quite big (1.5 meters square) i have a pair of tri colored nuns,a pair of purple chested gouldings and 1 white chest goulding( female flew out while transferring aviaries, planing on getting another) i also had what i thought were all male zebras but one started building a nest and would attack all the other birds so have moved then out of aviary into a different cage till they are sexed.

basically i was told most finches can be house together and there should be next to no fighting. not really interested in breeding( if it happens then it happens) mainly i love the sound of look off them.
i don't want to get a pair and them fight with the rest and/or get bullied.

so my question is what breeds can be house safely together in pairs or groups??
thanks guys :)

In a small avairy, say 2mtr high x 1mtr wide x 1.5mtr long you could try putting your pair of Gouldians and your pair of Nuns. However Nuns like flying distance, so suggest your next avairy be at least 2.5mtrs long. Then you are more likely to succeed with them. I wish you luck they are beautiful birds and I wish I had had more luck when I had them.

yeah, zeb are pretty dominating even tho our pet shop told us they are more settled being the same sex but they were still fighting with others and kicking them out of areas.

It is sometimes worth letting a landlord know that if you can build a serious avairy this would mean staying on longer as a tenant. I know, I am a landlord. Good luck.

I have 2 male canaries, pair of European Goldfinches, dozen zebras, pair of orange brested, 2 pairs of gouldians, pair of Red face Parrot finches, 2 pairs of Red Painted, 1 pair Cordon bleu, pair of Star Finches. I think that is all, ..no there is a pair of Cuban. They all live in 4 m x 1.3m x 2.1m aviary.
Pairs that breed are cuban, cordons, RF parrot, gouldians and of course zebras. Zebras are too active and anoying to others so I regulary sell them. Will leave only charcoal ones . Good luck.

As you have just said yourself, you would do a lot better if you built a 2nd avairy and moved the Zebs and the Canary cocks into that.
