It is easy to get Finches sexed these days by DNA, there are at least 3 companies doing it one in Vict, WA, and a Sth African company
with an office in Canberra.
I get my rarer birds DNA'd for two reasons these days, firstly ,the obvious to let me know what sex it is at an earlier age, but just
as important is proof of it's sex. In the past I have had people say that I supplied them with two of the one sex, I knew this was not so but
it was their word against mine so I replaced them. Today they get a certificate and the birds have metal numbered rings that will show if
it's tampered with. Since doing that not one problem.
There is a cost factor which also must be considered depending on how many you get sexed but if only a few it will be around $16 per bird.
A large number of buyer will whinge if a bird is $5 over what they think is normal price let alone $16.
If it is for yourself do it because it takes the guess work pairing your breeding stock.

Thanks for the information, greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of doing it for myself as I would rather know if I have a pair or not in my aviary instead of wondering what I'm not doing right. So I might go ahead and get it done for my stock. Thanks again
