Because mine are in mixed avairys I always have nests in. Just replace and refresh from time to time and they stop when they think it is the right time.

Normally put the boxes in after the Australia Day weekend, but if too hot wait a couple of weeks mainly because blacks ants are very active.. I find that there is not much early action, hens are just getting a tinge in the beak, cocks are starting to sing and display, for first year breeders things can be a bit dicky, clear eggs and 1 day old chicks tossed for no reason. Days get a bit shorter and then they kick in. I make sure my dry seed has cod liver and wheat germ oil in it to try and get away from the eggbinding thing, works okay for me. It gets cold here in Sydney, (real feel 2-3 degrees) but I cover my birds with perspex overnight. Stops draughts and keeps it a bit more comfortable. Remove nest boxes late September because I have found that the late chicks do not moult properly November/December.
The main thing is that Gouldians breed this time of year in their natural environment, after the wet season and through the dry when seeding grasses are doing just that. From Easter to late September It is just the way they are. Sprouted/chitted seed, greens, crushed eggshell plus a salt block and charcoal should see you do OK. After all, if I can do it anyone can.
Hope this helps.
