Hi all,

In the next few days I intend to build a carry/transport cage for the upcoming sale in Brisbane. My issue is that I'm not sure of a reasonable size, 200mm, 250mm, no clue
Could anyone share some dimensions along with some tips to building one(or more) of these, it would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on how many birds you normally transport...mine is 300mm long 150mmwide and 200mm high....built along the style of this one...but I put door on the side with rubber liner to help prevent escapes past my hand....I wish now I had a slide door on other end to let them straight out without catching when needed also... (ie:- straight into holding aviary) http://www.emeraldisleaviary.com/eiasho ... ingbox.jpg

I was thinking no more than 3 pairs for the carry cage. Is it recommended to paint the inside white? How large should the doors be, to make it easy as possible, along with being quick and safe. Thanks for any tips.

This carry box is 300 x 150 x150 One end has rubber on the lift up door the other end lift up door has no rubber and a finger tight screw locks it in place so you can't accidentally open it.
Made out of MDF (craft wood) with a 3mm thick white coated masonite back and front slide. Craig

Birds would feel more secure in darker rather than lighter . . the same reason as VP's box has small mesh 'portholes'

Rather than perches, I put in small sprigs of Tea-tree brush, large enough to allow some movement but to restrict panic movement

Doors need to be just large enough to accommodate a fist holding a finch for putting bird into the box, and the sliding exit door thet VP mentions reduces further stress when releasing

Water containers should not be placed in corners because finches will often jam themselves between container and wall, with fatal results . . a hole can be drilled directly above and container filled with a sryinge with a tube

Seed only needs to be put on the floor, but be sure to empty it out after use

Plenty of other ideas that others will contribute

Finished my prototype, and it truly looks like a prototype
Didn't plan enough, and caught myself off guard, and rushing into it... So much so i forgot the side door, had nailed in already with glue as well, and 30 minutes after the fact it clicked that i forgot it :lolno:
So on the holidays going to make a better one. I do thank the help, did help me decide on some aspects.
Also found that gutter wire, found at bunnings, is perfect for the wire on cages. comes in 5m rolls and can either be 190mm tall or 300mm i think. Nonetheless, a lucky find as I had run out of mouse mesh.
