I wondered if problems would arise from having only male finches.
We have a large planted aviary and can't catch birds easily.
We don't want to be overrun with birds because we can't catch them.
Two sets of babies that fledged we caught and put rings on them the same day they fledged.
We were told about a trap to catch them so hubby made one up. We caught the juveniles
we wanted to catch but accidentally killed a double bar doing it.
What with baby birds being taken out of nests to die or others dying in nests and then the
problem catching juveniles I wondered how it would go only having male finches.
We built the planted aviary with water feature as a feature and we sit outside it watching
the birds so WE don't need the babies but do the finches need to be in pairs?
All male aviary

Just putting my helmet on
Thank you for your fast response Tiaris

Thanks we had noticed that. Just got to catch a few females now that we already have in the aviary.
Going to try out a trap made of net curtain this time so we don't hurt another bird.

My first aviary set up was full of males only. I had one male finch of every kind, bar a few. It was my main aviary which is located in front of where we sit outside, and let me tell ya, what an awesome sight ! To have nearly all of them (about 40 birds !) in the bird bath at the same time in full sun was unreal ! All the different colours contrasting !
I eventually sold them off to concentrate on breeding a few pairs, as i didn't have other aviaries at the time. Looking back now, i regret not keeping that setup. But as a beginner, you live and you learn.
