I am treating one of my Gouldians for ASM. He was really puffed up and had the ticking sound. Two weeks in the hospital cage under heat and he is now almost entirely bald. He has no feathers from under his beak right down to under his tummy. I used Ivermectin from the vet which I alway use. He still is not looking well either, laboured breathing, closing eyes but not sitting right under the light like he was a week ago?

Some serious advice needed? I am unsure of the bird age as I picked him up from a breeder who had no idea.

???????????????? HELP????????????????

Sorry to hear about this but it sounds like the poisoning I spoke about in a previous post. What I found was if the bird didn't die the bald patch stays that way until the normal moulting time and it won't breed.

I found the Ivamectin effective when first mixed up by the vet but as it aged it became toxic in the manner you described but that the latter treated birds were more severely affected and died.

Just thought I would give an update on this guy. He is now getting all his feathers back and is calls to his mate that he can hear outside in the aviary. I am going to wait until he is completely better before I put him back in.

Giving Moxidectin once then again in 3 weeks time should kill all ASM right?

He seems fine except for perhaps a little laboured breathing???
