Hi, I went into the aviary this morning and have lost 14 birds ..
I have vermin proof wire , so there is always something trying to get in, but have failed ... overnight something succeeded and I did find a gap where the stapling has come loose ... I am redoing the whole aviary with button top screws.
My question is what is it.. I have a picture of one poop.. I don't know if it's rat or snake .. our of 14 birds I found 2 bodies, but dragged out of the aviary .. I will post a picture of them ..should I though!?.. and 2 chewed feathers .. there is no other feathers or anything else to indicate what it is.
Awful ... most of my birds are gone.. help work out what took them

If the gap is small and the amount of carnage my thoughts are you have had an attack by the little
marsupial Antechinus. A ferocious little hunter around a small mouse size.
Google it.

That is so awful; I'm so sorry.
My mind immediately went to an antechinus as well.

Hi, but that poop does not look like a rodent poo., it's not well formed ... and if it was this antechinus would it have such a large poop?
I clean the aviary daily.. But I did not think to check the staples holding the wire down. It's come off the wood, and it is loose for about 20 cm so not such a small hole.

These little buggers are ferocious and will kill everything it can get its paws on.It will wipe out an aviary,as it has done to you in no time.Do you have national park or native woodland around you?.It will keep coming back,so batton down the hatches.
