I’ve read a few posts lately about how folks feed greens to finches. I guess all birds get accustomed to / have preferences for some types of food or supplements than others (same as us). I keep mostly Gouldian’s and have a rotating set of pots with endive, silver beet and comfrey (as well as sprouted seeds and dandelions). These are very easy to grow and birds love them. Comfrey especially easy and they strip it back to the roots in a day or 2. It regrows if placed in a saucer with water and ready to put back to the birds in about 10 days (in summer).
I have had a bumper season with multiple clutches, lost no birds and all looking spectacular (they get wormed every 4 months & new nest material provided).

Like you, I am a strong advocate of greens. Find that birds fed greens do better than those that are not. Have occassionally purchased birds that do not seem to know what greens are, but put them with a canary for a month and the problem is usually solved. If no canary just put greens in when they have fledglings and the fledglings will try the greens so again problem solved. Congratulations on your season.

I use Ivomecten (spelling?) but less often than 4 monthly. Have not found that often necesary, maybe because of covered roofs.

Yes agree, 6 monthly though. Best before and after the breeding season for most finches. I use moxidectin plus, the plus is for tape worm.
It's available from the Australian Pigeon Co in Melbourne or your local vet.
