Well so far so good. My red cheek cordons mated 4 days ago and now theres only one bird out of there nest at a time so it looks like there on eggs. Also my pair of painteds are sitting on eggs also.
Hope the seasons going to be good! Gonna keep the mealworm bowl full at all times and hopefully that helps with the cordons. Anyone got any tips with them? Also pretty sure my double bars are going at it again also.
First time ive kept cordons so realy looking forward to it. Ive also got a pair of bengalese in a breeding cabinet.
Gotta love the cock cordon dancing with long grass and ostritch feathers! He looks like a wound up toy. Hes stopped now tho and they seem to be sitting tight.
Cheers.

Thanks Mick. Just the person i was hoping to here from. Ive seen your posts with your cordon fledglings.
Im not into nest inspecting so thats all good. Also im realy just gonna keep everything the same. I feed alot of mealworms bok choy brocoli tops and lots of seeding grasses. And home made egg food.
Also add extra red panicum to there seed mix.
By the way does anyone here keep red brows? ive got a pair and theyve built a massive nest in the tea tree. Hoping they will do the deed also.
Cheers

re Redbrows . . maggots/whiteants/small mealies fine . . but plenty of greenfood bok choi/lebanese cucumber will also help . . Definitely NO nest inspections . . anybody out there with a solution for Geckos, they are literally killing my breeding results????

Just been reading that geckos dont like the smell of mothballs......dont know how they would effect the birds though, maybe putting the mothballs in a box with holes so the smell can get out but the birds cant get to the mothballs.
Apparently they dont like being sprayed with Dettol either.
Air con installers spray something on the air con to stop them doing damage too.

Thanks BB . . other suggestions are Coopex dust and mousetraps baited with a tied on mealworm (take a long time to achieve a meaningful result) but most are impractical in a large heavily planted aviary . . the airconditioner "thing" sounds like a good lead and possibly could be used on the outside of nest boxes . . I already use Coopex dust inside boxes for cockroaches, but once nests are built the geckoes can "bridge" the Coopex

Thanks gomer! Im pretty stokked there a lovely bird the cordons. And i will be more then proud if i get young but hey time is on my side and theres.
Im hoping for some red brows tho aswell i just think there such a beautiful bird.
I know there cheap and there not very popular but as a kid i would watch them in the wild on the south coast (and still do) and i just love erm! Up close they are beautiful.
My painteds aswell are sitting realy tight! dont see much of the cock bird as he seems to spend more time on the eggs during the day but ive seen them swap a few times.
Just sucks when i go to work!!! Just wanna stay at home and have a beer and watch my birds!!!
Thanks guys.
