OK had enough of vulture / gouldian not making any inprovement so took the opportunity with the cooler ( although humid) weather to intervene and am so glad I did.
Took the pair out of the breeding aviary and have put them in the community aviary for a while , there is more air , sun , space out there and most of all no where to lay eggs ( hopefully ).
Other half pulled the nest box out and counted 70 eggs yes 70 eggs all this seasons and in the heat of summer and with both birds constantly sitting ....phew no wonder she looks crook.
So hopefully they can recoop out there till it cools down and she is back to her normal condition b4 going back to the breeding box and away from winter draughts.

Geez I pulled the pin at 26 eggs with my cut-throats but 70!!! - was that in one pile? I probably should have pulled my birds atfer the 26 eggs and placed them where they couldn't breed but I left the 4 newest looking eggs and two hatched last week. The young look fine, the hen looks fine but I noticed the cock bird at lunchtime looking frazzled and I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make it. Raising children isn't only tiring for the ladies you know.

She had about 50 eggs in one corner of the nest box then on top of that she had built another cup shape nest and a pile of about 20 were in that so basically she had built a nest on top and in the opposite corner of the first nest .
Needless to say the older eggs that cracked when taken out stunk .
They are doing fine and loving the rain , its their first time to have rain fall on them . The goulds and orange breasts are side by side in the rain .
I kinda had a policy of not checking the finches nests but after this I think I need to be more inter active with what goes on in the nest box , poor little girl must be worn out so plenty of greens , seed , water , sun , fresh air and room to spread her wings and she should be OK.
And no nest box till next year.

Dont mean to sound like a downer but maybe the cock bird is firing blanks? Or she is sterile? Been lucky so far with most birds but did have a pair of longtails when i was a kid do a similiar thing and we switched cock birds and all was fine.

A hen that is sterile can not lay eggs.
So either she is fobbing him off with a headache or he is firing blanks or too stupid to do his job.
