Why Are my hen's dying?

They are yellow star finches. One was a younger female never had a clutch yet, I wasn't sure if maybe the cock tired her out or something.

But now my experienced hen who was her mother out of nowhere died, she just had 3 chicks fledge last week so I hope the father will continue looking after the fledglings.

Could it be that they're egg bound? But I have so much cuttlefish an grit available to them and they get plenty of greens.

What am I doing wrong? They are covered during cold days so i don't think its the weather plus they made it through last years winter anyway.

I'm just sad and confused :(

Sorry about your losses. I have never had star finches so Im not sure what advice to offer, but from your post it sounds like you are doing all the right things.
Could something be getting in/on the aviary and spooking them?

I found my stars to be a little highly strung and tended to freak out more than the other birds so maybe B/Bfly has a point there may be something spooking them.

I thort about that but I wondered y it was just the hens... i don't think there is anything frightening them, any cat that has ever come close my dog chases away so unless she has scared them by chasing the cat one night that could be it.

Oh well what can you do these things happen part of the hobby.

Once all my Stars have stopped breeding and the fledglings are independant I will be selling them to make space for some of the new finch species I'd like to try. My avairy is nowhere near big enough to have them plus more unfortunately hehe

Thanks for the response though.

How are all your birds going?
