Last month in my mask aviary, 4 pairs. I was surprised to find 8 babies flapping around the aviary. The week before I could here them being fed in the nest, they were as loud as a large clutch of Gouldians. I was not aware of any other nests as only 1 pr of Mask were noticed at the live food bowl. I had checked the aviary the afternoon before, no babies. Imagine my surprise the next day when I finally counted them all. I noted that within the week 2 new nests had been built. I am thinking possibly 2 hens might have laid in the same nest. 8 is a hard number to believe from the same nest. The best these masks had produced before was a 5 and 6, but normally 2 to 4.
Sadly, 1 baby had drowned in the shallow water dish. I now have transferred 7 little beauties to the holding aviary.

That's a mighty effort indeed.I normally only get 5 at the most in a clutch. And your right most of the time you walk down the safty flight all adults are on the perch. Then you come along one day and there is young on the ground.
