Is there anywhere in Australia that does something like this?

Much like the ones they use down south to catch Corellas when they get to annoying. ( dont approve of catching our native parrots this way or any way really )

I was thinking more for the aviary instead of chasing them around with the net, or having to wait until the finch is in a smaller cage and use a string to close the door. (Too much like fishing! )

I have a couple of finch traps that I inherited from my Father. Only about 30cm square and 10 cm high (the holding section) works on a balance and drop principal. The bird walks into the feeding station and it and the food drop into the holding section. :o Will try and take a photo or 3 and send to you Diane. (Feel free to post them on here when I get to it) These were proffesionally made, but should be possible to make something of the sort.

I used something similar for catching/despatching indian mynahs.
The two tunnels that get smaller with spikes around the inside edge are very effective, a bird wouldn't get out.
