Someone gave my Goulds nasty pills ...they have home invaded on 3 occasions that I am aware of and are now stalking the territory around the food ( 3 hoppers ) they sit in the nest ( todays nest )heads out with beaks wide open hissing at anything close by oh and then there the chase sequence ( with the D/bars taunting and laughing). :lol:
They just aint cute no more .
They torment the widowed emblema and have the yellow emblemas too scared to leave the nest for fear of home invasion number 4 .
I will be forced to go in there with a tiny wooden spoon if this keeps up , they are nasty , unpleasant little sods . :shock: certainly not the precious little prima donnas I bought home . :x

For some reason, people underestimate the aggresive nature of the beloved Gould. I think it may have something to do with the pretty colours they display. They do deceive and yes, they are nasty little sods. Just make sure your nesting sites have plenty of distance between them and set up a few different feeding stations.

Fire finches can be the same, I have one male who has paired up with a pink pied and he is a terror around his nest, he had one Gouldian hanging by the wing last week. His nest seemed to include the area of about 4 other boxes. I hopefully have solved the problem now. I put some more screening around his nest so that he cant see the Goulds as they inspect the other boxes.
Just have the normal morning everyone chasing everyone now :)

the feed hoppers are spaced out and I think Ill hang a couple of wicker nests today to give the other birds some refuge ...

Yeah have been watching closely at how the other birds are reacting to this sudden bout of assertiveness and no dramas really , the D/bars just laugh at Goulds and the always even tempered emblemas just shrug it off and go about business as usual.
So all the huff and puff is just that ...hot air . So a good mix I think , also it has convinced me that this aviary is fine as it is and not to add any more birds , which means that the fire finches are staying put in the big breeder cabinet where they are thriving .
Have also decided ( at the moment ) to stick with the birds I have and concentrate on them , Ive already downsized to a workable amount of birds ( including the parrots ) and hope to be able to resist getting more .
Just have to be strong at the Forbes sale , cant miss it its the best sale of the year for me ...not to big or small .
