This contraption came with an aviary I bought. I was told it was for keeping nesting material in so the birds can access it. Well the emblemas decided it is the perfect place to put a nest  Its sitting under a couple of Gouldian Boxes, and by the sounds of things somethings is going on in one of the boxes too, as I could hear tapping while I was taking the pic.

It made up from swamp grass and coconut fibre that I put there for all the birds to use, the emblemas have added bark, shells, sticks, leaves, feathers and flowers and three eggs.
Thats Mr Emblema in the nest.

I have one exactly like that!
Only mine didn't nest in it, I put nesting grass for their other nests in it, and sometimes a clump of freshly dug - up (and oh, did I get thh book thrown at me for doing this  ) clump o lawn. They loved it.

I thought my aviary floor was fairly tidy, but after looking at the pic again and seeing the variety of stuff the emblemas have used on the nest it cant have been as tidy as I thought
But they have turned trash into treasure and made something quite attractive, they have even used the dried flowers from some native flowering branches I put in there.
Seems like the emblemas are as useful as quail for keeping the aviary clean. :D
Yet another point towards them being a favourite in a mixed aviary.

Mr Emblema has been hard at work over the past four days with home extensions. Mrs Emblema now has a roof over her head. She sits in the nest and he works around her.
