My Emblema pair have been sitting for 2 weeks now but today they are suddenly both out of the nest at the same time but going back frequently and either just looking into the nest or going in and only staying for a minute. Does this mean there may be eggs hatching or something wrong?

Really???? These are my first, so fingers crossed. Sure they know what they're doing but would have thought they needed more sitting on to maintain body warmth of freshly hatched chicks.

Do you feed soft food or sprouted seed? If so you will notice a marked rise in their intake a definite sign they have young.

Once the eggs have hatched and if the chicks are keeping thenselves warm enough the parents will nick off for a time out ....wouldnt you

Certainly would. Can't blame them for lolling around in the sun all morning. Will keep an eye on the soft food bowl and seeding grasses to make sure they've got plenty. Havn't used sprouted seed yet as once again the logistics of doing it for 8 birds seemed a bit daunting

Congratulations on the new babies, if indeed that is what's happening.

Since taking the boofheads (gouldians ) out of the aviary yesterday I have noticed the Emblemas here are more relaxed and spending more time away from the nest , no need to stand guard anymore :)
And the boof heads seem happy in the breeder box but with no one to annoy Im sure they will get bored soon.
