I was just about to drop in and ask if anyone else has had their Goudlians breeding in recent weeks, but I can already see from other posts that there's some of that going on. Is this a theme for the year - Gouldians breeding outside of their usual January to July season?!

I'd had zero successful breeding all year, then suddenly three successful clutches so far in August and September. Maybe the Goulds have finally decided to shift to the NSW time zone and breed in Spring time like sensible birdies. :D

A lot of Aussie birds from the north and most hot areas will prefer to breed in the cooler months ..

Gouldians will most definately breed right up until the moult if you let them. I've had most of my pairs seperated for some months now but I paired up a couple that didn't come into condition until later and they are on their last clutch now. It is very stressfull for them to be rearing young while they are supposed to be moutling and it could bring about their untimely death so be careful with breeding them this late.

I hear you. They are in an aviary so I let them do their own thing. I am just so pleased that my one remaining yellow* finally raised a small clutch after tossing every single one of her last four clutches .

(*Some nasty mystery beasty kept getting in and over a period of 6 months ate every yellow-backed bird except her - all my yellow Gouldians, my drop dead gorgeous and $$$ mutation RFPFs - about $700 of my favs! It was aweful and inexplicable. So now that my only yellow girl has finally decided to raise some bubs I can't bring myself to stand in her way.)

I was about to post something like this-saved me the trouble :) I had a quick sticky beak in a few of my Gouldian boxes and found 2 nests of eggs. I will be away for 10 days so that should stop me interfearing! Ill keep you posted if they hatch or not. I have my fingers crossed. I off to Perth so I am hoping to pick up birds while I am down!
