OK red emblema male in aviary , sits in the corner ( on the ground ), no sign of illness or injury so I put him in quaranteen cage , its jumping from perch to perch happy as Larry so after a week he goes back into aviary same thing happens .
Aviary is 2.5 x 1.5 he shares with yellow emblema x2 and O/breasts x 2 ...oh his Mrs has been by his side with all the moving.
First few days in aviary did great , annoyed the yellows a bit while they where getting the pecking order and nests sorted out then yellow gets upper hand and the red becomes the one being chased and thats when this rot started.
Wont fly up to perches in avairy but can fly perch to perch in cage .
Wont eat in aviary but woofs it down in cage . Happy to leave it in cage if its going to carry on like this , looks to me like some sort of mantrum ( you know man tantrum ) over losing its place in the pecking order but before I be too hard on the little bugger just wondering if it could be anything physical .
Oh checked eyes in sunlight no hazing or anything funky looking as I thought that might be a reason for it .

That's an easy one Deb - it's stress. Finches do not have the brain capacity to have tantrums. They lack the required brain size for such sophisticated emotional behaviours.

Indeed, they work mostly on hard wired instinct. His instinct is telling him now that he is not part of the flock, therefore he is in danger of being attacked. Stress is much like depression in humans, they don’t want to eat or mix in. But remove them from the stress, and bingo! All is well again.

So you have 2 options. Leave him in there and hope he comes good, or else relocate him with his mate to a new aviary / cage. You could then try introducing them back to the original aviary during high summer when most finches are not interested in breeding.

Good luck
