Does anybody know of any good sales coming up within two to three hours drive of Canberra for the remainder of the year. Looking to pick up a red Fire tail hen so as to keep the recently widowed male happy

John,
If you're looking for a Painted hen there are some contacts in Canberra I can give you.
Also check out www.burdsale.com.au (if that doesn't work take out the .au), has all sorts of sales listed.
I can't think of any until March.

They dont seem to do too many sales in Summer ...perfectly understandable

Yeh, I thought that would be the basis of answers I received. I guess he will have to be celebate or a little while. Don't know if you remember the Ruddy I had that would not fly which eventually did find his wings, well he is now buried after finding him dead in a nest. He had become very quiet and lost a lot of feathers around the head so Kev is no more.

Emblemas are an excellent bird to keep and now I am down to just the one male I am keen to breed a few more similar to the OB's that just won't stop breeding.

Looks like I wait until the Autumn for some chance but most breeders I have spoken too don't usually sell a hen as a single and I am a little weary of getting a pair as it does not really solve anything and may cause fighting any way between the males.

Thanks Jay, nothing lives for ever. The good news is that the other pair of Ruddies look to be nesting so I may have some home bred ruddies yet.

Thanks Finchbreeder and I also thought it was ironic that my Kev started going downhil at the same time as his name sake. If my ruddies do the right thing and come up with the right offspring I would have been happy to let you have a mate for yours but the east coast and the west coast of this country of ours is just too great a distance.
