I met a finchbreeder the other day that feeds chia seed to his birds. Does anyone else? I read it's really good for us to eat! It's expensive but, so would have to be really good to feed the birds for me to buy it. Iv never seen it metioned in finch articles, so I'm guessing it's not really practiced!

Have heard mentioned before but price outweighs benefit. If you are looking for something different I use Copra in a container good for birds and cheap.

Apparently chia is one of the salvias (Salvia hispanica) and was a crop in pre-Colombian central America where it was grown because it is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. I wonder if it's like the stuff as Miley Cyrus smokes (Salvia divinorum, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvia_divinorum)?! Image No idea where you can buy it but most salvias grow well in dry climates if you can get hold of some foundation seed you can grow your own.

Hi, WE buy Chia for our personal use, depending where you buy it price ranges between $16 and $24. Klg. No we don't feed it to the birds.
Cheers Greg.
