The photo below is of one of our male canaries. He and his mate were in the main aviary and had 3 clutches of eggs, only 2 ever fledged, then about 3 weeks
ago he started to lose all his neck feathers so we removed him and his mate to seperate cages and treated him for mites/lice, not that we saw any.
He is active in the cage and does not appear to be stressed, all ideas would be welcome. :?:

Vaguely recall reading that the black mite is often hard to see and by wetting the neck then holding the bird up to a good light you should be able to see them under the skin ummmmmm something about head rubbing also ...
It was a google thing and I was looking for red mite so didnt take too much notice but the site was about canarys.
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

These things happen in this case a preditor but in your case I don't know.

He is a beatiful bright colour. And a crested too? But sorry cant help.

We used to call him the Duke of Glouster but now he is know as Dickie Knee. The redness seems to be fading so hopefully
he is improving.

I'm a Gloster breeder so I recognized the type. My current boy is all green, previous was all yellow. But have had a number like your guy over the years. Don;t know if I am lucky or just getting things right, but apart from the odd case of scaly leg, which is treated with a mix of vegetable oil and Detol, do not seem to have problems with my canarys.
