What sort of measures would you put in place if you had to leave your birds for a few days, especially if they have young in the nest? I'm thinking:
- automatic supply of rain water via tank (refills bowl 4 times per day).
- a tray of 4 or 5 punnets of spinach and other greens for them to graze on
- of course, more than enough seed to last them
Anything else? Can anyone suggest a good timer tap to use on rain water tanks?
What to do if you have to leave your finches for 4 or 5 days

Find a trustworthy friend/relation to check waters just in case. Clean self feeders and fill with fresh seed in case there is coddling moth in there that will block feeder. I'd be putting in green seed heads rather than veg in this weather.

I dont know where you are located but even here in Dubbo there are pet / house sitting services . From last quote $20 will have them come out and check the birds for you ...if only for peace of mind .
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

i dont think you need to worry to much lotsa water and use a cleanser virkon or chlorhexadine. Lotsa dry seed. 4 days aint gonna hurt erm. There not gonna die thru lack of green food. even just put enough green food in to last the first 2 days.
Then go away on hols a relax
