My first success with finches!

It's here. After much success with various parrots I now have my first young finches. RFPF bred from a pied hen (thanks matt) and a normal male. 4 hatched, 1 died within a day (or at least I haven't seen it since) and 3 fledge last week. They are very dark, olivey in colour is this normal for uncoloured? Not pied but will be split. They are also very flighty but get better each time I see them.
There are now some eggs in another box which I think may belong to a sea green but haven't seen anyone go in there. And the gouldian is sitting on one lone egg, which doesn't look good. Hopefully next clutch will be more successful.

And boy do finches love swamp grass. I'm going to have to teach them to tone it down or start producing numbers in the hundreds to pay for it.

Thanks, I was going to wait to post it till I took some photos but couldn't help myself. Unfortuantely because I have a lack of space they will have to go to dads to colour up once they are ready to move out.

Well done, it's always a thrill when you first breed a new species. I still get a thrill out of some of the Majors & the softbills whem they breed, even though I've had them for a few years, I still feel a great deal of pride when they come out.

There might be a pic of the young in the profile section, I remember seeing a pic of youngsters in there but cant remember if they were BFPF or RTPF.

Congrats! Hopefully, before winter you will get another couple of clutches. Once you get a pair going they really produce well.

Thanks. Do you think they may get back into action once I remove the young? At the moment (young are out of the nest days only) they are behaving like the perfect parents, following the young around everywhere and keeping them in line. I'm not sure if its a warning call but everytime he sees me, the male gives out the trilling call.

You might find they get back into action even before you remove the young! Ive found the parrot finches tend to make that trilling sound when people approach the aviary. Its a different trill to the one to call to the female though.
