is there a way to grow sprouted seed in less than 24 hours? would a microwave work if you kept them moist enough during?

In the right weather, you should be able to get seed to chit in about 24 to 36 hours. Maybe a small glass house might help.

I have a mate who microwaves his seed to soften it, but all it does is soften it (Cooks it). It would add nothing at all to the seed nutritionally. The sprouting process does radically increase the nutritional value. Microwaving would kill the seed making it impossible to sprout.
Some seeds sprout quicker than others. Niger, safflower, sorghum & mung beans are all quick sprouters (within 24hrs of soaking). The sprouting time will also vary according to temperature - slower in cold.
When I sprouted seed I soaked in disinfectant solution (Virkon S) for 4-6hrs, drained of with a fine kitchen sieve without rinsing, then put into a large bowl for 24-48hrs until sprouted (stirring 2-3 times a day to mix moister bottom layers with dryer top layers for more even sprouts & moisture levels). I then froze 2-3 weeks worth at a time. From the freezer it can simply be scooped out with a spoon & fed immediately or mixed with other ingredients if desired. Chitting stage of sprout (sprout just visible) is the peak stage for maximum nutritional value.

Mine goes off just on the kitchen sink . ( in a sieve of course) :D

I dont use chemicals ( I have multicleanse so its a choice ) I do small lots often and rinse everytime I go into the kitchen .

A bit of a soak in Apple Cider Vinegar before the final draining then out to the birds.
